Fitness is one of the greatest aspects of human life. It is one of the most known terms in daily life routine. When we talk and discuss about a motor vehicle, super car / Sports bike or any supersonic jet / plane, we always compare their fitness components in terms of speed, horsepower, aerodynamics, body parts and engine capacity etc. Similarly Human body also have likewise motor abilities such as speed, endurance, Strength, flexibility, balance, Body composition etc. These fitness components play an important role in performing the daily life routine, acquiring new sports skills and keeping our self-health and illness free life.
The Importance of Exercise’s – Article is to create factual awareness among the people about the need for and importance of Fitness. Subsequently according to their age group an individual can plan their fitness routine and can involve him / herself on daily basis.
To understand the importance of fitness, benefits of exercise and health it is essential to understand the actual meaning of Fitness and how it is co-related with exercise and health.
The concept of Fitness, Exercise and Health: –
1. Fitness
Moving, walking, jogging, running and exercising freely. Lifting objects doing daily life routine exclusive of tiredness
2. Physical Fitness
Running 50 mtrs 100 mtrs race in 7-8 seconds, lifting weight to improve strength, agility drills playing basketball, baseball, volleyball decently.
3. Exercise
Following a fitness schedule on regular basis. Activities to improve basic muscular energy, muscles elasticity, build muscles, lungs and hearth capacity etc.
4. Health
Illness free life, correct posture, stress free life, have good relations with family members and friends, have good impression in society etc.
All the components are interrelated and effects each other – Falling sick may affect physical and mental health. In-balance daily social life may affect the social health. |

Fitness components have divided into two categories – Health Related fitness and skill related fitness and further they both have subcomponents.

Importance of Fitness: Health-Related
- Body Composition – appropriate fat distribution in the body, it helps to decrease the risk of obesity problems, heart diseases and lifestyle diseases.
2. Muscular Strength – Ability of a muscle to exert an external force or to lift heavy weight. It helps to improve Basal metabolic rate, improve joint strength and improve correct posture.
3. Muscular Endurance – By improving the muscular endurance, we can carry out our daily life work more efficiently.
4. Cardiovascular Endurance – Decreases resting heart rate, decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease, improve endurance etc.
- Flexibility / Elasticity – It helps to perform bending, twisting, rotating exercises. Unblocked regular muscles and joints movement, Suppleness of the body. “Yogic asanas may be a very effective way to improve the flexibility”.
Importance of Fitness: Skill Related

2. Allows twist and turn the body quickly while playing basketball, Football, Ice skating, Hockey, Handball etc.
3. Balance / Stability
Playing an important role while siting, standing, walking, running, performing yogic asanas playing various games and sports.

Basketball – body position while receiving the ball from other teammates, directional movements with and without ball, hand leg eye coordination to learn and perform the different skills etc.
Football – Dribbling and moving into different directions, passing – lofted kick, grounded kick, push pass etc
Gymnastics – while performing summer sault, cartwheel, front and back roll and other skills etc.
· Power – The amount of force body muscles group can produce in a quick go.
Athletics – Long jump, High jump, Shotput, discuss throw, javelin throw power plays an important role.

In cricket and Baseball – While hitting and catching the ball .

Importance of Fitness: in different age group
Every individual body is fitness level is different, and they also have diverse requirements. In many research finding it is mentioned that it differs according to age, gender, genetics, individual habits, exercise and diet.
Babyhood – (1-2 years)
In this age group growth and development, physical activities play a vital role.
Gross motor skills – basic body control while sitting, neck movements and head control, crawl, walk, roll, move one to other place etc. such activities help in proper brain development, pathways to brain muscles connection basic reaction ability etc.
Primary Childhood – (3-7 Years)
Active and independent walk / run / play, Outdoor activities like running, biking, throwing, catching, swimming. Approach towards developing the fine motor skills.
Later Childhood – (8-12 Years)
In this age children need to be exposed to a broad range of activities like jumping, running, swimming, exposing children to many different activities during school may help them grow into healthy active adults.
Adolescent – (13-18 years)
Adolescents’ exercise regime focuses on muscles and bone strengthening exercises. Can opt for professional sports training, at least 1 hours of play every day is recommended, playing sports / doing regular exercises help to lower down the negative energy, Aerobic exercises also lower down the blood pressure.
Young Adulthood – Youth (18-21 years)
To stay healthy adult should do brisk walking, jogging, cycling, weight training, they may do moderate aerobic activity for at least 150 minutes every week. They must exercise to tone their muscles.
Adult – (21- 40 years)
In this age an individual may focus on the maintaining the specific physical efficiency and achieve high level of sports performance.
Seniors – (40 and above years)
Focus more on basic muscles mobilities, muscular movements, maintaining the basic flexibility, general fitness to live a healthy and happy life.
Importance of Exercise pattern / Variability required by the body in different age
Childre – (7-14 Years
In this age children become active and agile. Their postures and balance become better. More emphasis should be on the fineness in specific motor movements such as agility, speed, reaction ability. Children should be given chance to take part in sports competitions to develop the health, fitness and exercises habits.
Youth – (14-18 Years)
They should emphasize on activities like Swimming, Football, Gymnastic, Basketball, Yoga, Athletics etc.
Adulthood – (19-25 Years) –
They should do Specific fitness workouts to achieve a specific goal. Regular Gym / Strength workout, aerobic activities, long distance running swimming etc.
Late adulthood (26-40 years)
As people grow older the fitness level also get effected. Instead of doing more intense exercises they should follow a improvised fitness schedule which help them to stay fit.
Senior Age group (40-Above)
Regular exercise, at least 30-40 minutes of daily bricks walking, Yogic exercises to maintain basic flexibility, Swimming with moderate pace. Different terrain walking / jogging, basic flexibility exercises are suggested in this age group.
